Warwick Spinks Free.
Evil Warwick Spinks, dubbed the Pied Piper of Paedophiles, was extradited from the Czech Republic in November after 15 years on the run.
He should have then served the last 18 months of his five-year jail term. But when he was caged back in 1995 the law only allowed officials to make offenders serve part of a sentence before automatically freeing them.
That loophole was closed for absconders last year but it cannot be enforced retrospectively.
So officials had to free Spinks FOUR MONTHS after his recapture.
The pot-bellied paedo, who now calls himself property tycoon Willem van Wijk, celebrated his freedom and 49th birthday with a sordid bash for 14 pals, including toyboy Vladimir, 34.

Amsterdam erstickte in der Schwüle. Kein Hauch kam vom Meer. Schwitzende und lärmende Touristen krochen wie fette Käfer den Rembrandsplein rauf und runter oder schluckten Erfrischungsgetränke in den überteuerten Straßencafés um sich vor dem Dehydrieren zu bewahren. Gill ging neben Bart und betrachtete missgelaunt das Treiben. Das einst von Ted Allbeury als zivilisierteste Stadt der Welt bezeichnete Amsterdam war zu einer Konsumkloake verkommen, voll gestopft mit Kriminellen und Abschaum. Die Globalisierung der Gier und des Elends hatte auch vor dieser einstigen Schönheit nicht halt angehalten. Eine Metropole der Perversionen und die Hauptstadt der Toleranz und der Lebensfreude – nur nicht für die Opfer. Wer hier vom Wagen fiel, kroch durch die Gosse und fraß Kot bis ihn der Tod erlöste. Die Calvinisten hatten die Hölle längst privatisiert.
Die engen Seitenstrassen mit ihren aneinander gedrängten Häusern hatten ihren historischen Charme in den Fassaden bewahrt. Trotzdem wirkte die Stadt nie antiquiert. Sie hatte die umtriebige Energie kultureller und wirtschaftlicher Neugier. Im Zentrum mit den großen und kleinen Shopping-Tempeln drängelte sich niemand durchs Gewühl, der nicht einen Einkaufssack mit sich schleppte. Die Gesichter der Touristen strahlten begeistert über diese perfekte Verdinglichung der Existenz.
In der Verbrechensstatistik Europas hatte sich Amsterdam in den letzten Jahrzehnten auf Platz drei vorgearbeitet und behauptete sich recht gut als ökonomische Metropole. Nachdem die Amsterdamer Bosse Klaas Bruinsma und Willem Holleeder erschossen oder aus dem Verkehr gezogen worden waren, hatte sich die Schattenwirtschaft internationalisiert. Ganz vorne dabei waren serbische Killer und die unvermeidbaren Triaden, die schon in den 1970ern ihre Machtkämpfe ausgetragen und ihre Claims abgesteckt hatten.
Sie bogen in eine weniger belebte Seitenstraße ab und verließen den Trampelpfad des Tourismus. Gleich um die Ecke des Rembrandsplein mit seinen Cafés und Geschäften lag die Paardenstraat, zugemüllt und nach ****e stinkend.


 Bart war ein hagerer Bursche in einem zerknitterten Anzug. Er hatte ein angstvolles Lächeln, das nie stehen blieb und über sein Gesicht zuckte. Seine Höflichkeit war immer eine Spur zu eifrig und zeigte seine Unsicherheit. Der typische Laufbursche. Von allen gemocht und bis zu einem gewissen Punkt akzeptiert und ins Vertrauen gezogen. Einer der es nie bis hinter die Türen schafft, wo die wichtigen Leute sich ihren Mist ausdenken und planen.

Bart grinste unsicher und rieb sich das Ohrläppchen. „Sie werden es nicht glauben. Ich war Gefängniswärter. Für ein paar Gulden besorgte ich den Häftlingen, was sie gerade brauchten. Ich musste Geld verdienen. Meine Frau war schwer krank und konnte nicht mehr dazu verdienen. Aber wir hatten uns an einen gewissen Luxus gewöhnt. Naja, ich verdiente mir jedenfalls das Vertrauen von ein paar harten Jungs. Als ich aufflog, haben sie mich rausgeschmissen. Was kann ein gelernter Schließer aus dem Staatsdienst noch machen? Nicht mal eine Security-Firma wollte mich… Die hatten Angst, dass ich vielleicht einen Inside-Job machen könnte. Meine Frau verließ mich für den nächsten besten mit einer ****en Börse. Also rutschte ich ins Geschäft.“
„Spitzeldienste?“
„Oh, nein. Sie werden das auch nicht glauben, aber ich bin irgendwie doch eine ehrliche Haut. Deswegen werde ich auch akzeptiert. Denn für gefährliche Jobs fehlt mir der Mut. Die Bullen sind zwar an mich heran getreten, aber ich habe sie abblitzen lassen. Ich habe keine Nerven für ein Doppelspiel.“

Er kümmerte sich um die Knaben und Dutroux um kleine Mädchen im Netzwerk.“

Gill stand auf und ging ein paar Schritte vom Café weg. Er rief Jacqueline Keogh an um das Geld zu besorgen. Sie sagte ihm, er könne das Geld jederzeit bei der Rabo Bank-Filliale am Dam 16 abholen. Auch mehr als er jetzt brauchte. Geld war bekanntlich kein Problem.
Gill ging zu Bart zurück. „Sie bringen mich rein, dann können Sie verschwinden. Den Rest erledige ich alleine.“

Stan Maillaud, ein in Frankreich vergleichsweise bekannter Ermittler in Sachen Pädosatanismus der Eliten, also Kinder sowohl vergewaltigen als sadistisch schlachten, ist seit wenigen Tagen spurlos verschwunden.

Die Leserkommentare bei Alain Soral fürchten um sein Leben, sie vermuten, es werde ihm möglicherweise gehen wie seinem Kollegen Christian Jambert, der ebenfalls über pädosatanistische Netzwerke ermittelte und 1997 mit zwei Kugeln im Kopf tot aufgefunden wurde. Natürlich Selbstmord, sagen die Behörden.

Beim Lesen der Web-Beiträge oder Abhören der Videos von Égalité et Reconciliation fällt auf, daß sowohl Alain Soral als die Kommentatoren in regelrecht stereotyper Prägung vom *Pädosatanismus der Eliten* sprechen.

Wer immer noch meint, solche Ansichten würden höchstens von Verschwörungsidioten vertreten, aber doch nicht von demokratisch-rationalen Bürgern, sollte die Vorkommnisse um Stan Maillaud endlich zum Anlaß nehmen, im Web oder anhand von Büchern Recherchen anzustellen.

Unter den Stichworten Sachsenumpf und Dönermorde wird er vieles finden, was sowohl bei deutschen als auch französischen Kriminalfällen eine wesentliche Rolle spielt.

Als Büchsenmacher habe ich schon oft mit Schußwaffen-Suiziden technisch zu tun gehabt: Daß sich ein Selbstmörder aber 2 Schuß in den Brezel setzt, konnte ich bisher nicht bestätigen: wenn sich ein Selbstmörder in den Schädel schießt, verletzt er in der Regel das Stammhirn und dann kann man keinen zweiten Schuß abfeuern, weil das vegetative Nervensystem diesen Befehl nicht mehr übermitteln kann.

Zwei Kopfschüsse sind fast 100%ig Mord, selbst wenn sie aus der selben Waffe stammen…

The paedophile ‘investigation’ closely resembles the Global econo-fiscal meltdown in one important way: the people involved in allegedly sorting it out will do anything rather than admit it’s a socio-cultural disaster. Sad little teachers in provincial towns get banged up, but any mention of Leon Brittan is fobbed off with the “rumour and innuendo” shtick….exactly as it was applied to Cyril Smith when he was alive. The worrying thing is that this isn’t a Front Page issue any more. The filibustering of those protecting the fiddlers is doing precisely what they intended – creating ennui in the face of bigger issues like being broke and having no home.

Meanwhile, the Establishment folks who don’t get out enough continue to demonstrate their woeful ignorance on the subject of paedophilia. Callum Evans, 21, from Queen Camel, near Yeovil, Somerset, posed as a girl on the social networking site to encourage victims to send him naked photos before meeting up with two 14-year-old boys and molesting them. But just two years ago a judge allowed him to walk free from court with a three-year community order for the offences and refused to ban him from Facebook.

At the time, Judge Graham Hume Jones said depriving Dower of access to the site would be ‘particularly excessive’ and deprive him of the ‘social traffic’ his peers took for granted. Yes you pillock, but his peers aren’t paedophiles, doh. Anyway, two 14 year olds stuck for life with a sexual trauma, all because some bewigged nitwit was more worried about a sociopath’s human rights than the right of normal kids to be protected from perverts.

Occasionally, judicial stupidity has nothing to do with it. The reason South Australian paedophile and former magistrate Peter Liddy got away with it for so long was his mates covering up for him. He is now serving 25 years for his crimes, but even so those representing him were moving in 2011 to get seven further assault cases wound up – ie, closed. They represent a long-standing civil action against Liddy for child sex crimes…and guess what? The judge ordered all seven to be closed permanently. Why?

Yesterday’s Mirror had a classic example of what these folks can go on to do if given enough rope.

Paedophile ring survivor Chris Johns – who suffered at the hands of abusers in North Wales care homes for years – angrily demanded to know why the names of those suspected of abuse and murder in the Jillings Report had been blanked out. He claimed that the full truth was still being hushed up. The report lists details of 12 young men whose deaths were thought to have been linked to the abuse they suffered between the late 60s and 80s, and even suggested that serving police officers from the time and council staff were strong suspects. But – and I’ve been expecting for this ever since Sally Bercow lost her libel case to Alistair McAlpslime – the Mirror says, ‘… it is heavily censored with names blanked out over fears of defamation after Lord McAlpine was wrongly named as being involved late last year.’

Of the 12 victims now mysteriously dead,  four had lived at the notorious Bryn Estyn home in Wrexham – which was at the centre of the inquiry.

Speaking about Monday’s heavily censored release of the report, Mr Jillings said: “The treatment of children was bestial. They weren’t treated like humans. Children died. It was horrific.”

Chris Johns’ brother Adrian, 32, died in 1992 in an arson attack before he had a chance to give a statement about the abuse he suffered at the Bryn Alyn home in the 1970s. He suffered at the hands of paedophile John Allen, who made a fortune running a number of homes. Leander survived the attack in Brighton with awful burns, and in 1995 both he and Chris gave evidence against Allen.

But during the week after Leander’s evidence, Allen had absconded from bail. Leander then turned up dead.

Eventually, John Allen was caught and – despite the arson suspicions and odd deaths -  was given just six years for sex assaults on boys. He is now free.

When are the judiciary going to get it through their concrete heads that every serial paedophile is a potential killer? It’s not as if this is new news: writing in the Guardian during 1997, Nick Davies horrified his readers by tracing how…

‘Three British men who lived in Amsterdam in the early 1990s have spoken quite independently of each other of their knowledge of paedophile “snuff movies”. All agree that they were made in Amsterdam by British paedophiles. Two of them name the same individuals, though neither admits to his own involvement. One of them appears openly in the Network First documentary. He has identified two houses where he says the films were made; he has named two Dutch criminals who he says were involved in distributing the films; he has given detailed descriptions of the boys in the films, described a club in Oslo where one of them was picked up, and he has identified a lake where he says their bodies were thrown. His allegations to Network First have been taken seriously by Scotland Yard, who have interviewed him twice at length, and by Dutch police who last month (March) launched a formal murder inquiry…’

He goes on to describe some of the horrors perpetrated by infamous paedophile Warwick Spinks:

‘The boy’s name was Gary, he was 14-years old, he had grown up on a rough estate in the north east of England….he and his friend, Peter, also then 14 , had run away together and gone to London….Spinks told the two boys that he had got some LSD for them at his home in Hastings on the Sussex coast, he paid for them to come on the train with him and took them back to his flat, where suddenly he produced a kitchen knife and made them strip naked. The burly 30-year-old ordered them to have sex together while he took photographs. When they failed to perform as he wished, he buggered both of them. Both of the boys pleaded with him to stop, but Spinks told them he liked it best when they were scared. He kept them in the flat for two days and gave them LSD. Some of the time, Gary was weeping.’

If this reminds you of Ian Brady torturing his child victims, there’s a good reason: he was a paedophile too. But guess what, Spinks got just five years when Plod finally caught up with him – reduced from seven years on appeal. After later crimes, Spinks fled to Amsterdam. He should never have been released: that isn’t a Daily Mailism, it’s based on what paedophiles go on to do. Nick Davies again, in 2000:

‘Spinks had been running a mail order ****ography business from Brighton, before he moved to Amsterdam, where he pioneered the trafficking of boys as young as 10 – first, from the streets of London, and, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, from the poverty of eastern Europe. Having brought them to Amsterdam, he used these “chickens” himself, sold them into the brothels or through escort agencies and put them in front of the camera. Some resisted, some ran away, but most were made to comply through the removal of their passports and doses of drugs and violence.

By 1990, these two clubs on Spuistraat, together with Boys for Men, De Boys, the Blue Boy and the Why Not, had become the busiest watering holes in the international paedophile jungle. Dutch police estimated there were 250 paedophiles involved in the production of child ****ography in Amsterdam with an unknown floating population of child sex tourists from all over the world – and it was the British who formed the hard core consumers: Stephen Smith, who had helped to found the Paedophile Information Exchange, fled there when police in England prosecuted the organisation; Russell Tricker, now 58, a former private school teacher who was convicted of child sex offences in the UK, used his job as a coach driver to ferry suitable boys from London; John Broomhall opened a **** shop on Spuistraat and was caught with more than 1,000 copies of videos of under-aged boys; Mark Enfield, now 41, sold a video of himself abusing a drugged boy.

Alan Williams introduced two paedophile friends from Wales, John Gay and Lee Tucker, both of whom were to become central targets for Bristol detectives. The two men found they could sell Welsh boys into the clubs on Spuistraat and then make more money by investing in child ****ography. They bought video equipment, set up TAG Films, and visited Amsterdam regularly to make films, which they sold through distributors in the US and Germany. At the time, Dutch law punished production of child ****ography with a maximum sentence of only three months.’

He carried on until even the Dutch police had seen enough. But he fled to the Czech Republic and managed to evade capture….having already absconded from his risible five year British sentence in the 1990s. Unbelievably, following extradition from the Czech Republic in November 2012, he is now back in prison – but will serve only the 18 remaining months of his sentence.

Evil Warwick Spinks, dubbed the Pied Piper of Paedophiles, was extradited from the Czech Republic in November after 15 years on the run.

He should have then served the last 18 months of his five-year jail term. But when he was caged back in 1995 the law only allowed officials to make offenders serve part of a sentence before automatically freeing them.

That loophole was closed for absconders last year but it cannot be enforced retrospectively.

So officials had to free Spinks FOUR MONTHS after his recapture.

The pot-bellied paedo, who now calls himself property tycoon Willem van Wijk, celebrated his freedom and 49th birthday with a bash for 14 pals, including toyboy Vladimir, 34.

Spinks was first identified as a dangerous child abuser in 1992. He divided his time between England and Amsterdam, introducing sex tourists to young boys.

He told one undercover cop he could arrange sex with boys in Germany, Prague and Poland for as little as 10p. He was also secretly taped offering to supply a “snuff” video in which a boy, ten, was killed for kicks.

In 1995 he was jailed for seven years at Lewes Crown Court, East Sussex, for several offences against underage boys.

His sentence was cut to five years on appeal but when let out on licence in 1997 he fled the UK, violating his probation conditions.

Spinks was tracked down in Prague in 2000 running sex tours for paedophiles. But he evaded justice and was finally extradited last November, a coup hailed by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre.

It had branded him “one of the most notorious and violent offenders we have ever dealt with”.

The Ministry of Justice refused to comment last night. But a source admitted Spinks’s release was “embarrassing”.

In Prague, where the age of consent is 15 and prostitution is legal for over 18s, vile Spinks aims to take advantage.

He told our undercover man: “I fully intend getting old disgracefully.”

THIS stark timeline tracks the years of Spinks’ sick trail of terror across UK and Europe:

1992: HE is quizzed by London cops on links to Euro paedo rings. He fixes sex with boys for tourists in Holland and offers to sell sick torture films.

1993: A LAD of 14 says he was raped at knifepoint and sold to a Dutch brothel after Spinks lured him into his home in Hastings, Sussex.

1995: SPINKS is jailed at Lewes, Sussex, for offences including drugging and kidnapping the 14-year-old boy and committing sex acts on him.

1997: DESCRIBED as “one of Britain’s most dangerous paedophiles”, Spinks is released from prison on licence and immediately flees.

1998: THE fiend sets up an agency in Prague after flitting between boltholes. A warrant is issued when he is spotted in the Canaries in 2001.

A violent child sex offender who fled the UK and went on the run for 15 years is back in jail after being arrested in the Czech Republic.

Warwick Spinks, 48, was arrested at Heathrow after being flown from Prague on Thursday, the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) said.

He was also caught on secret camera offering to supply a video in which a 10 year old boy was killed and one featuring the horrific abuse of a young boy.

CEOP said Spinks was convicted in 1995 at Lewes Crown Court of numerous sexual offences against boys in Hastings.

He was jailed for seven years, reduced to five years on appeal in 1996.

His offences included serious sexual assault at knifepoint, taking indecent images of children and taking a child without lawful authority.

International investigation

He was released on licence on condition that he was not allowed to leave the UK without permission.

He breached the conditions in 1997 and was recalled to prison, but went missing.

Following extradition from the Czech Republic he will serve the 18 remaining months of his sentence.

His arrest followed an international investigation involving officers from CEOP, the Metropolitan Police and the Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca).

Spinks was arrested by Czech police in August 2012. He had been using numerous aliases , including Willem Van Wijk and William Spinks, CEOP said.

Spinks fled Britain three years ago – breaking conditions of parole – after his early release from a jail term for drugging and kidnapping a 14-year-old boy who he SOLD to a gay brothel in Holland.

The fiend – described by police as one of Britain’s most dangerous paedophiles – was also suspected of masterminding an international paedophile ring and being involved in “snuff movies”. He faces instant arrest if he returns home.

Spinks BRAGGED to our investigators – posing as sex tour operators: “In Prague, a boy will spend the night with you for 400 Kronas, less than pounds 10. Just put the men on a plane and leave the rest to me. I can provide accommodation, transport and the personal touch.”

The Sunday People has put paid to Spinks’s sick scheme by blowing his cover. We can reveal today how he:

-POSES as a Dutch property consultant, using the name Wilhelm Pavel;

-SHAVED off his moustache in a bid to alter his appearance and rarely ventures far without minders;

-HIDES away in a flat in one of the smarter suburbs of Prague, a magnet for perverts because the age of consent for gay sex is only 15;

-USES e-mail and hidden websites to keep his tours secret from the authorities;

-PLOTS to make Prague as popular as Thailand for paedophiles. The city’s police have heard of kiddies as young as eight selling their bodies.

-TAUNTED Scotland Yard detectives who long to put him back behind bars and protectchildren.

Spinks, who claims to speak eight languages, boasted: “I know all the right boys. They’re all bisexual in this country. Any boy is available at the right price.

“I already have a lot of clients from Holland, Germany and Belgium. In June I have 20 arriving here. They are all spoilt b******s with lots of money.

“Amsterdam is played out now and all my old friends have moved here as well. The beauty of this place is that, like the Dutch, they have no hang-ups about sex.

“The boys are as cheap as in Thailand but are just two hours away from London by plane. The average wage here is only pounds 200 a month.

“I provide apartments because you will have a problem taking a boy back to a hotel room. There are security men on every floor and they will not allow visitors no matter how much you have paid.”

Spinks, who had his gay lover Jakob, 22, in tow, said: “Between us we have eight apartments with access to another 68.

“My apartments will give you the freedom to do what you like when you like. They are all nicely furnished and in the right locations for nightlife. I use clubs like Pinocchio’s or Escape where you get lads on the run from conscription into the army. Some of them are stunning.”

Spinks, from Greenwich, South London, proudly explained how he contacts the scum who use his services. He said: “I don’t need to advertise but have a website run by a friend in Budapest.

“Most business is by word of mouth. I have a lot of regulars who know they can trust me. The boys are also trustworthy. You don’t have to worry about them stealing from you.”

Spinks then explained how he looks after the needs of his pervert punters.

He said: “We can pick them up by car from the airport or organise a minibus if it is a large group. We will drop them off at apartments and take them out for personalised tours of all the best places.”

Spinks tries to meet any needs of his clients – down to a supply of Diet Coke in the fridge.

He said: “They all want boys. We will be flat out pampering them. Most of our business is repeat business and clients won’t come back if we don’t look after them properly.”

Spinks was convicted in 1995 of abducting the 14-year-old.

He drugged the lad, who had run away from a children’s home, and sold him as a rent boy in Holland. British and Dutch police launched an investigation after the boy fled to the British Embassy.

Spinks got seven years, cut to five years on appeal. Officers from Scotland Yard’s PaedophileSquad were furious when he got parole in 1997 after 30 months. He ignored conditions that he be supervised by probation officers and sign the Sex Offenders Register and fled – sending cops a taunting postcard from Holland.

International businessmen, lawyers and politicians were among Spinks’s clients when he ran the notorious Why Not boy brothel in Amsterdam before his arrest.

Cops in Amsterdam secretly taped Spinks offering to supply a video in which a 10-year-old boy was killed. He also said an associate had seen a boy die in the making of a film.

Spinks told our investigators at a meeting in Prague’s Wenceslas Square: “Scotland Yard would love to get their hands on me because they wasted pounds 2million investigating me.” Two minders watched from a nearby car as Spinks added: “I am well protected here.”

When one minder rumbled our photographer, Spinks started ranting and had to be calmed by passing policemen.

    Status: Lived in Syria for decades; Syrian refusal to cooperate stymies prosecution efforts; convicted in absentia by France. B. Dr. Aribert Heim - ?? *

    Doctor in Sachsenhausen (1940), Buchenwald (1941) and Mauthausen (1941) concentration camps. Murdered dozens of camp inmates by lethal injection in Mauthausen.

    Status: Disappeared in 1962 prior to planned prosecution; wanted in Germany and Austria New evidence revealed in February 2009 suggests that he may have died in Cairo in 1992, but questions regarding these findings and the fact that there is no corpse to examine, raise doubts as to the veracity of this information. During the past year, a court in Baden-Baden, Germany closed the case without forensic confirmation of Heim’s death.

    Ladislaus Csizsik-Csatary - Hungary

        Served as the Commander of the Hungarian police in Kosice (Hungarian-occupied Slovakia) and was in charge of the ghetto of “privileged” Jews; helped organize the deportation to Auschwitz of approximately 15,700 Jews from Kosice and vicinity in spring 1944.

        Status: : Convicted in absentia and sentenced to death for torturing Jews and his role in the mass deportation to Auschwitz. Escaped to Canada after World War II, but was stripped of his Canadian citizenship in 1997, and chose to voluntarily leave the country. His whereabouts were unknown until fall 2011 when he was discovered living in Budapest by the Wiesenthal Center in the framework of “Operation: Last Chance.” On July 17, 2012, Csatary was charged with torture of the Jews in the Kosice Ghetto, and was placed under house arrest and had his passport confiscated. Currently under house arrest in Hungary, where he awaits possible prosecution. In late March 2013, a Slovak court commuted his death sentence to life imprisonment to enable Slovakia to seek Csatary’s extradition to stand trial for his crimes in Kosice.

    Gerhard Sommer - Germany

        Former SS-Untersturmfuehrer in the 16th Panzergrenadier Division Reichsfuehrer-SS; participated in the massacre of 560 civilians in the Italian village of Sant' Anna di Stazzema.

        Status: On June 25, 2005, Sommer was convicted in absentia by a military court in La Spezia, Italy for committing "murder with special cruelty" in Sant' Anna di Stazzema. Since 2002, he has been under investigation in Germany, but no criminal charges have yet been brought against him.

    Vladimir Katriuk - Canada

        Served as a platoon commander of the first company of Ukrainian Schutzmannschaft Battalion 118 which carried out the murder of Jews and innocent civilians in various places in Belarus.

        Status: Escaped to Canada after World War II but was stripped of his Canadian citizenship in January 1999 after his service as a **** collaborator was revealed. In May 2007, the Canadian authorities decided to overturn his denaturalization, a decision confirmed by the Federal Court of Appeal in November 2010. New research by Swedish historian Per Anders Rudling revealed Katriuk’s active role in the mass murder of the residents of the village of Khatyn, Belarus and provides a firm basis to overturn the decision not to strip Katriuk of his Canadian citizenship.

    Hans (Antanas) Lipschis - Germany

        Served in the SS–Totenkopf Sturmbann (Death’s Head Battalion) from October 1941 until 1945 at the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp where he participated in the mass murder and persecution of innocent civilians, primarily Jews.

        Status: Escaped to the United States after World War II, but was deported by the American Office of Special Investigations to Germany in April 1983. Currently under investigation by the German authorities for his role in the **** death camp.

    Ivan (John) Kalymon - United States

        Served in ****-controlled Ukrainian Auxiliary Police in Lvov (then German-occupied Poland, today Ukraine) during the years 1941-1944, during which time he participated in the murder, roundups and deportation of Jews living in the Lvov Ghetto.

        Status: On January 31, 2011, Kalymon was ordered deported from the United States to Germany, Ukraine, Poland, or any country willing to admit him, for concealing his wartime service with forces in collaboration with **** Germany and his participation violent acts of persecution. No such country has yet been found and he therefore remains in the United States.

    Soeren Kam - Germany

        Volunteered for SS-Viking Division, where he served as an officer; participated in the murder of Danish anti-**** newspaper editor Carl Henrik Clemmensen.

        Status: In 1999, Denmark requested the extradition of Kam, which Germany refused due to his German citizenship. A subsequent extradition request was refused in early 2007 on the grounds that Clemmensen’s death was not murder but manslaughter, which was under a statue of limitation. Efforts continue to bring Kam to justice either in Germany or in Denmark.

    Algimantas Dailide - Germany

        Served in the Vilnius District of the Saugumas(Lithuanian Security Police); arrested Jews and Poles executed by the ****s and local Lithuanian collaborators.

        Status: His American citizenship was revoked in 1997 and he was deported from the United States in 2004 for concealing his wartime activities with the Saugumas. In 2006, he was convicted by a Lithuanian court for arresting 12 Jews trying to escape from the Vilnius Ghetto (and 2 Poles), who were subsequently executed by the ****s, and was sentenced to five years imprisonment. The judges, however, refused to implement his sentence because he was old and was caring for his ill wife and “did not pose a danger to society.” In July 2008, in response to an appeal against the refusal to implement his sentence, Dailde was ruled medically unfit to be punished, without being personally examined by the doctors who provided the expertise.

    Mikhail Gorshkow - Estonia

        Served as interpreter for the Gestapo in Belarus and is alleged to have participated in the mass murder of Jews in ****zk.

        Status: Fled from the United States to Estonia before he was denaturalized for concealing his wartime service with the ****s; had been under investigation in Estonia since his arrival several years ago, but in October 2011 the Estonian authorities closed the investigation against Gorshkow, claiming the case was one of “mistaken identity,” a decision which was severely criticized by the United States, Russia, and the Simon Wiesenthal Center.

    Theodor Szehinskyj - United States

        Served as an armed SS Death’s Head guard at the Gross Rosen (Poland), Sachsenhausen (Germany) and Warsaw (Poland) concentration camps where he actively participated in the persecution of civilian prisoners.

        Status: Escaped to the United States after World War II, but was stripped of his American citizenship in 2000 by the Office of Special Investigations and was ordered deported in 2003. To this date, no country has been willing to admit him and he therefore remains in the United States.

    Helmut Oberlander - Canada

        Served in Einsatzkommando 10a (part of Einstazgruppe D) which operated in southern Ukraine and Crimea and is estimated to have murdered more than 23,000 people, mostly Jews.

        Status: Escaped to Canada after World War II, but was stripped of his Canadian citizenship in August 2001, after his wartime service with the ****s was revealed. In May 2004 his citizenship was restored but it was revoked a second time in May 2007, and that decision was overturned by a Federal Court of Appeal in November 2009. The case is currently pending again.

Alois Brunner commanded the Drancy internment camp outside Paris and was responsible for the deportation of over 140,000 Jews. He fled to Syria after the war and is thought to have been living there ever since.



Aribert Heim was a doctor at the Mauthausen concentration camp who tortured and killed hundreds of inmates. He was tracked down in 1962 but then fled West Germany.

Gerhard Sommer – a second lieutenant in the N azi SS, he was convicted by an Italian court in 2005 of “murder and special cruelty”, but Germany has refused to extradite the 94-year-old to Italy.

After years of reluctance, Germany is moving to try the last surviving N azi war criminals before they die. After long lives in  hiding, nonagenarian Auschwitz guards and more finally face justice



In Holland he is nicknamed the “Beast of Appingdam” – but white-haired, frail and aged 92, Siert Bruins hardly looked the brutal **** war criminal as he shuffled into a German courtroom on Monday to face charges of murdering a Dutch resistance fighter at the end of the Second World War.

In 1949, Holland sentenced the Dutch-born former **** SS officer to death in absentia for killing resistance fighter Aldert Klaas Dijkema in September 1944. Bruins is accused of shooting his victim four times in the back after he was captured by an SS squad near the town of Appingdam.

Yesterday, nearly 70 years after the murder, Bruins appeared for the first time in court in the town of Hagen to answer for the killing. But although he admitted joining the Waffen SS as a volunteer in 1941, he maintained a stony silence as judges read out the charges against him.

Bruins had managed to live undetected in Germany under an assumed name for 30 years. “He ran a fencing company and was a respected businessman whom people admired,” said his lawyer Klaus Peter Kniffa.

After obtaining German citizenship during the war, Bruins went to live with his family in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia after the conflict. Germany’s post-war authorities refused to extradite him to the Netherlands to serve his sentence, which was later commuted to life imprisonment, although by the 1970s he had been identified as a possible war criminal.

His appearance in court on Monday was due to a change of heart by German state prosecutors. They initially classified Bruins’ killing as manslaughter – an offence which had already passed the statute of limitations. However, they recently reassessed the case and concluded it was murder, a crime which does not become legally invalid over time.

Bruins’ case is one example of the sea change that has occurred in German justice circles over the past decade. Far from being one of Germany’s last **** war crimes trials,  it may be the beginning of a new wave of prosecutions. The German authorities say they are poised to bring scores of other potential Third Reich war criminals to justice.

A younger generation of German judges and state prosecutors has dropped a previous reluctance to pursue **** war criminals and is striving to bring the few still alive to court. “There is a feeling that time is running out and that it is necessary to pursue the last war criminals before they die,” Efraim Zuroff, the chief **** hunter of the Jerusalem-based Simon Wiesenthal Centre – which in 2002 launched Operation Last Chance , a mission to track down ex-****s  still in hiding –  told The Independent yesterday.

Most of the top **** war criminals such as Adolf Eichmann have either been brought to justice or, as in the case of the infamous **** death camp doctor Josef Mengele, escaped by emigrating and living a life on the run. There is only a handful of top ****s unaccounted for and most are presumed dead.

But in July the Wiesenthal Center launched a poster campaign in Germany displaying the entrance to the infamous Auschwitz death camp. The initiative aims to bring the estimated 60 lower-ranking **** war crimes suspects now living in the country to trial. Mr Zuroff said yesterday that the campaign had resulted in a “deluge” of emails from Germans who claimed to have information about war criminals.

The campaign follows the highly publicised trial of the Ukrainian-born former Sobibor death camp guard John Demjanjuk following his extradition to Germany from the US in 2010.

Demjanjuk was convicted of war crimes by a Munich court in 2011. He was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment on charges based solely on records showing that he served in the camp where 28,000 Dutch Jews were sent to the gas chambers on arrival. There were no witnesses who identified him as a camp guard.

In Holland he is nicknamed the “Beast of Appingdam” – but white-haired, frail and aged 92, Siert Bruins hardly looked the brutal **** war criminal as he shuffled into a German courtroom on Monday to face charges of murdering a Dutch resistance fighter at the end of the Second World War.

In 1949, Holland sentenced the Dutch-born former **** SS officer to death in absentia for killing resistance fighter Aldert Klaas Dijkema in September 1944. Bruins is accused of shooting his victim four times in the back after he was captured by an SS squad near the town of Appingdam.

Demjanjuk died last year at the age of 91. But his trial created a legal precedent in Germany which enables prosecutors to bring other former camp guards to trial simply on the basis of **** records. Last month Germany’s Central Office for the Investigation of National Socialist Crimes announced that as a result of the Demjanjuk trial, it was ready to begin issuing arrest warrants for 40 men and six women suspected of having worked as guards at Auschwitz.

Kurt Schrimm, the organisation’s director, said his agency planned to recommend that state prosecutors bring charges against most of the 46. All the women under investigation were said to have been SS guards in the women’s section of Auschwitz. The youngest is 87. “We do not know of any executions committed by female guards but some treated prisoners very brutally and have already been convicted of war crimes,” Mr Schrimm said. His office has refused to name any of the suspected war criminals likely to be charged but one of the first to be indicted is expected to be the former **** SS Auschwitz guard, Hans Lipschis, who was recently tracked down by a German newspaper in a retirement home near Stuttgart.

Lipschis, who is 93, was born in Lithuania in 1919 and granted ethnic German status in 1943 following the **** invasion of the country. He is accused of working as a guard at Auschwitz from 1941 until 1945 and of participating in murder and genocide. He fled to the US after the war and lived in Chicago for 26 years before he was exposed. The authorities deported him to Germany for lying about his past to obtain a residence permit.

But once back in Germany, the authorities concluded that they had no evidence on which to prosecute Lipschis. Subsequent paperwork has since surfaced which showed that he was a member of an SS “Death’s Head” unit which, among other duties, supervised the unloading of trains carrying Europe’s doomed to Auschwitz. He denies involvement in the mass murder of Jews at Auschwitz and claims he was merely a cook at the death camp.

Given the new legal precedent set by the Demjanjuk case, Lipschis is unlikely to escape trial this time around. But Mr Zuroff argues that the final decision will be down to Germany’s state prosecutors and whether they opt to bring charges. He added: “We welcome the move, but Germany is legally a de-centralised country. It is up to individual state prosecutors. More may be pressing charges against war crimes suspects but some still don’t care.”
